NRIs travelling into India are advised to be alert as a well organised conspiracy by Immigration, Police, Customs and airline staff has been suspected at all Indian International Airports. The way it works is that when a traveller hands his passport to the Immigration/Customs or airline counter staff, they tamper with it. When the passenger is departing, the exit officer tears away a page of the passport and the passenger's details are Red Flagged so the next time he arrives he is interrogated. Then, subject to the passenger's period of stay abroad, income, status etc the price to be rid of the problem is negotiated.
